Ensuring better regional and national adaptation and mitigation responses to climate change challenges facing Pacific ACP[1] countries is at the heart of the €12 million EU funded Intra-ACP[2] GCCA+ Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change and Resilience Building (PACRES)
[1] Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Republic of the Marshall islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

(i) strengthen support for the Pacific Resilience Partnership of the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific (FRDP);
(ii) provide additional support for Pacific ACP negotiators to the UN Framework to the Convention on Climate Change:
(iii) support scaled-up adaptation pilots in five Pacific ACP[1] countries not receiving similar support under GCCA+ Scaling Up Pacific Adaptation (GCCA+ SUPA). These will focus on ecosystem-based adaptation solutions
[1] Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste and Vanuatu.

In Pacific ACP countries, PACRES will support:……find out more

(i) piloting of streamlined monitoring and evaluation processes at the community, national and regional levels;
(ii) review or development of National Adaptation Plans, Joint National Action Plans, Nationally Determined Contributions and Low Emissions Development Strategies;
(iii) further mainstreaming of climate change and disaster resilience; and
(iv) piloting the resilience sector as a community of practice.
Pacific Islands
Across the Pacific Island region, PACRES will:…..find out more
Pacific Island
(i) strengthen existing climate change and disaster resilience networks;
(ii) scale-up Pacific professional resilience capacity, including through scaled-up technical and vocational education and training qualifications;
(iii) validate end-user needs and increase the access to and reach of climate change and resilience information;
(iv) offer additional scholarships and new online courses in climate change and disaster resilience; and
(v) strengthen engagement and dialogue with the private sector and deepen public sector understanding of private sector needs and experience with respect to climate change responses.

Partners
PACRES will capture and highlight good practice and lessons learned, in the Pacific and other ACP regions.
PACRES emphasizes intra-regional cooperation, working with the other CROP Agencies, as well as inter-regional cooperation, working with the ACP Secretariat, in support of knowledge building and transfer including the documentation and sharing of best practices.
It will work closely with other projects including GCCA+ SUPA, Pacific Ecosystem-based Adaptation to Climate Change (PEBACC) the Pacific NDC Hub and Institutional Strengthening in Pacific Island Countries to Adapt to Climate Change (ISACC)
